HBO’s ‘VICE’ Wins Emmy for Outstanding Informational Series or Special

vice_mediaLos Angeles, CA – VICE Media is proud to announce that it has won an Emmy Award for its HBO series VICE in the category of Outstanding Informational Series or Special.

VICE is hosted by VICE Media founder Shane Smith and features today’s underreported stories from around the world, presented in an unvarnished documentary style.

Described as a “’60 Minutes’ for the young and the restless” by the New York TimesVICE takes viewers around the globe as its correspondents cover stories often overlooked by traditional media outlets. When reporting on today’s most pressing issues, from anti-government rebellions to hotbeds of terrorist activity to conflict and corruption, VICE uses an immersive documentary style to reveal the absurdity of the modern condition.

The Emmy Awards honor Season Two of VICE, which saw expanded episodes featuring new award-winning correspondents, such as the documentary filmmaker and author Ben Anderson (“No Worse Enemy”) and the filmmaker and producer Vikram Gandhi (“Kumare”). Season Two saw VICE correspondents travel to Greenland to witness the glacier melt in the region; go to Afghanistan to investigate rampant U.S. military waste and corruption; reveal extortion, torture and killing in Rio’s favelas, and more.

VICE was recently renewed by HBO for two more seasons, to air in 2015 and 2016. In 2013, VICE was nominated in the category of Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.

VICE is executive produced by Bill Maher, Shane Smith, Eddy Moretti and BJ Levin, with Fareed Zakaria as consulting producer.
